The Pelvic Bowl: Episode 3 - with Dr. Andrea Orvieto
The Pelvic Bowl, EP 3: Finding Healing & Fertility Through Pelvic Care with Dr. Andrea Orvieto
In Episode 3 of The Pelvic Bowl: Deep Conversations with The Pelvic Acu, host Dr. Krystal Lynn Couture, DPT, LAc sits down with Dr. Andrea Orvieto, L.Ac., DACM, FABORM, founder of SoFla Acupuncture & Wellness in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
What unfolds is an inspiring and deeply personal conversation about the path to pelvic care, the integration of acupuncture with pelvic floor therapy, and the profound ways these practices change patients’ lives.
Andrea’s Journey Into Pelvic Care
When Dr. Andrea began practicing acupuncture in 2017, she thought she would treat “everything and everyone.” But early in her career, she was advised by a fellow practitioner not to pursue fertility care because it was “too much pressure.”
Ironically, that warning became the catalyst that drew her toward women’s health and fertility. When close friends began facing fertility challenges, Andrea felt compelled to learn more. She dove into continuing education courses, eventually earning her fellowship with the Acupuncture Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM).
Her own pregnancies and postpartum experiences with incontinence later introduced her to pelvic floor therapy. That was the missing piece. As she shared:
“Everybody that focuses on fertility should know about pelvic floor care because it goes hand in hand. It’s not two separate things—they blend beautifully.”
Why Pelvic Care Matters in Fertility
For Andrea, pelvic care isn’t an optional add-on; it’s foundational. Just as a house needs a strong foundation to stand, the body needs pelvic floor health to support conception, pregnancy, and beyond.
In the episode, she recalls realizing that patients facing unexplained infertility or endometriosis could benefit immensely from pelvic floor-focused acupuncture. Integrating this specialty has allowed her to help patients in ways that conventional medicine sometimes overlooks.
The Power of Listening First
When asked what her most important tool is as a pelvic health acupuncturist, Andrea didn’t mention needles or points. Instead, she spoke about listening:
“Even before touching a patient, hearing them and giving them the possibility and that hope of—I hear you, this isn’t forever, and there’s something we can do about it—that’s life-changing for the patient right then and there.”
Too often, women with pelvic floor dysfunction or fertility struggles are dismissed or told their symptoms are “normal.” Andrea’s trauma-informed, compassionate approach helps patients feel validated and hopeful—long before treatment begins.
Patient Success Stories
Dr. Andrea shared several moving client stories that highlight the transformative effects of pelvic-focused acupuncture:
Freedom from leakage: A patient in her 60s who once traveled with half her suitcase filled with pads for stress incontinence was able to walk three miles without leaking—after just a handful of sessions. Remarkably, Andrea achieved this result without even treating internally, focusing instead on abdominal and glute points.
Postpartum restoration: A mother of three, who felt her body had “never gone back to normal” after her last pregnancy, reported improved bowel and bladder function, as well as re-engagement of her abdominal muscles. While her healing journey is ongoing, pelvic acupuncture has already shifted her quality of life.
These stories echo a theme throughout the episode: pelvic care creates real, tangible change—whether the goal is fertility, healing from birth, or restoring confidence in daily life.
Bridging East & West
Practicing in Florida, Andrea has seen firsthand the gaps in women’s healthcare. She has made it her mission to bridge those gaps by collaborating with Western doctors while offering patients the integrative, whole-person care they often can’t find elsewhere.
Her clinic, SoFla Acupuncture & Wellness, has become a safe haven where fertility, women’s health, and pelvic floor therapy come together in a seamless model of care.
